APAH is a legally constituted NGO under Honduran law, governed by a General Assembly of Members that appoints a Board of Directors and an Executive Director to develop APAH's future strategies. It maintains links with technical experts from the United States Forest Service (USFS) and other institutions to develop local capacity and expertise in Honduras. APAH was founded in 2021 by young environmental promoters who graduated from the Youth for Conservation Honduras program, implemented since 2017 by the United States Forest Service (USFS) and with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Each member of the Association is an Environmental Promoter, having graduated from any of the existing classes of the Youth for Conservation Honduras program since 2017.
As of 2025, APAH maintains more than 200 active members in its association.

The current board of directors was elected in August 2025, meeting all legal requirements.
